HISTORIC RESOURCE SURVEY FORM. NORTHWEST PORTLAND" Charles H. Korell (1857-1944) was the Father of Oregon’s former congressman, Franklin F.Korell.
Korell was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on December 7, 1857. He came to Oregon at the age of 17 and as a young man established a mercantile business on northwest Front street. In 1890 he engaged in property management and real estate selling, continuing in the business until he retired. In 1883, Korell married Francis M. Baroll, daughter of Col. Franklin H. Barroll.
Mrs. Korell died in 1933. Korell was a charter member of the Portland Realty board, the LangSyne Society and was affiliated with Willamette lodge No. 2 AF & A.M for 45 years. He died at 70 years of age on October 13, 1944. He was survived by three daughters, Mrs. Arch J. Tourtellotte, Miss Laura F. Korell and Mrs. Walter S. Shanks and a son, Walter H. Korell. He lived at 2387 Kearney. Sources:
